Over 800 million pounds recycled since 1990....heading for a billion!
Whether the products are expired, obsolete, defective or need to be recalled, Conigliaro Industries operates a full service Recycling Workshop that offers:
Newly arrived expired medical products awaiting demanufacturing
Many new products have an expiration date based upon stability studies conducted by the manufacturer. Once the expiration date has been reached, the products can no longer be shipped into the marketplace. This happens most frequently in the medical and food industries. When products are expired but still haven't left the manufacturer's warehouse, the operator of the warehouse is normally instructed by the manufacturer to dispose of the product(s). That is where we come in!
Sometimes a product becomes obsolete before it ever has the chance to enter the marketplace. This happens often in the electronics industry, for example. Many times these obsolete products are kept from the marketplace by the manufacturer so they don't compete against the newer, more up-to-date, versions of the product.
Unfortunately mistakes happen. When products are manufactured incorrectly they can pose a significant risk to the user. They can also result in substantial liability for the manufacturer if they are placed into the marketplace once the defect is known. Our demanufacturing, dismantling, recycling and disposal programs make sure that the defective products never reach the marketplace.
When products that are already in the marketplace are determined to be defective they are typically recalled by the manufacturer as requested by government agencies such as the Consumer Products Safety Commission or the Food and Drug Administration. Over the years we have helped many manufacturers execute nationwide recalls of their product(s).
Conigliaro Industries believes in the following waste handling hierarchy:
1) Reduce
2) Reuse
3) Recycle
4) Waste to Energy
5) Landfill
Please note - waste to energy options are dwindling here in the Northeast.
Not everything you send us can or will be recycled for a variety of reasons. Many new products are made from multiple materials fused together. There are limitations to how much labor we can expend to separate highly complex and/or fused multi-material items in order to recycle a given item.
Typically all pallets, cartons, stretch wrap, plastic overwrap, bubble wrap, silicone tubing, rigid plastics, foam plastics, glass and metal portions can all be recycled during the demanufacturing and dismantling process. However small tubing sets for example, with too many attachments, will typically be sent to waste as-is. THE PHOTO ABOVE SHOWS A VERY COMPLEX PERFUSION SET THAT IS ESSENTIALLY UNRECYCLABLE EVEN THOUGH IT IS BRAND NEW...
Essentially the portions of your palletized products that require too much labor to dismantle compared to the pounds of material recovered will not be recycled.
Please do your best to prepare your recyclables properly.
Wet, heavily mixed or contaminated recyclables typically become waste. The resulting unrecyclable or leftover portion of your materials, aka "Out-Throw", is disposed of properly - either sent to a Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facility when possible or a landfill when necessary.
